Why Is my guinea pig awake at night?

Well i just got my new baby guinea pig about a month and a half ago. My sister was sleeping in my room one night, woke up during the middle of the night and said she herd him running all around! Why doesn't he sleep at night like he is supposed to because i herd they are not nocturnal!
