A question about IP addresses?

It was probably a phishing scheme to lure you to a malicious website that could've infected your computer with malicious software. Hypothetically speaking, If you had visited the website, the malicious software would've installed itself on your computer without you knowing. After it gets installed, the malicious software creates a backdoor to your personal computer allowing a hacker full access to your computer. The hacker is notified with your IP Address and other information of the infection. He then tries to gain control of your computer and at this point, he can do whatever he wants to it.
